The problem I have with my dish drainer is not the eyesore it creates. Function over form. It's the drying rack that lives beneath it. Even when it is made tilted,

My grandparents also have this problem. Keeping up with the gunk in their drainage board is nearly as difficult as keeping up with the dishes. While I was there yesterday, I decided enough was enough and I was going to FIX this tilt problem.
At home, I've been using dishrags for years to help combat this problem. It works.

It's unsightly. I've never liked the way it looked. I knew my grandfather would not appreciate it, even if it did manage to keep mildew from accumulating on his plastic, so I started looking for other options. I was thinking corks, feet from old appliances, thread bobbins... Anything that I could glue under the lip to give it some more tilting power. Then, I found these.
They're just plastic clothespins. I nabbed a few and attached them to the corners of their drainage board. Reassembled their dish drainer and washed the dishes. Water poured down the new slope and the pooling left in the edge was minimal. It worked so well, I asked if I could take some for my rack at home. Since I can't remember the last time my grandparents told me, "No, you can't have that." I got them.
It's just plastic on plastic, so they may not stay put. If I have any problems with them, I intend to stick a dab of hot glue onto the board, then clip them on before it cools. They don't get wet and may simply need some added traction at the attachment point in order to be stable. With the wide edge of the sink supporting the other side, I don't think there will be slipping on the counter top.
I didn't look to see if anyone else has had this idea, but I'm sure that it is featured in another, more regularly updated Mommy blog with better photos and writing. I still thought it was worth sharing with the few among us who leave our drying racks out on the counter permanently.
